Breast Surgery

Breast surgery is among the most personal decisions a patient can make. The goal — whether that means increasing volume, restoring shape after pregnancy or weight loss, reducing size to relieve physical symptoms, or correcting a concern that has caused years of self-consciousness — is always the same: a result that feels right for your body, your proportions, and your life.

Mr Matthew Potter is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon with sixteen years of experience in breast surgery. Every recommendation he makes follows a thorough assessment across multiple consultations, with implant sizing trialled in clinic and decisions made jointly. He does not operate until he is satisfied the procedure is right for you.

Breast Procedures

Silicone implant surgery to increase breast volume and upper fullness, correct asymmetry, and restore shape. Implant size, shape and position agreed jointly across several consultations.
Restores projection and elevation to breasts that have descended or lost volume through ageing, pregnancy or weight loss — without implants, using the patient’s own tissue.
Reduces breast volume to relieve back, shoulder and neck pain, and the physical and psychological burden of disproportionately large breasts. 100% nipple and areolar survival across Mr Potter’s career.
Surgical reduction of enlarged male breast tissue — through liposuction, excision or both — with minimal scarring and natural-looking results proportionate to the patient’s body.
Permanent correction of inverted nipples through a minor local anaesthetic procedure, with an exceptionally low revision rate and immediate return to normal

Mr Potter's Approach to Breast Surgery

Breast surgery decisions are never straightforward, and Mr Potter does not treat them as such. Size, shape, position, existing tissue volume, skin quality, symmetry, and the patient’s own goals all factor into what the right procedure looks like — and in many cases the right answer involves a combination of techniques.

For breast augmentation, implant selection is a joint decision made across several consultations, with trial implants used in clinic to give patients a realistic sense of their result before any commitment is made. For breast uplift and reduction, technique selection depends on the degree of descent or excess and what approach gives the best access to the breast tissue. For gynaecomastia, Mr Potter investigates for medical causes before recommending surgery, and tailors the technique to the ratio of fat to glandular tissue in each individual case.

Across all breast procedures, every piece of tissue removed is sent for histological analysis as standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which breast procedure is right for me?

This is what Mr Potter’s consultations are for. Many patients arrive with a clear idea of what they want to achieve — Mr Potter’s role is to assess whether the procedure they have in mind will achieve it, and to explain clearly what it will and will not do. In some cases a combination of procedures produces a better result than either alone.

For breast augmentation, Mr Potter sees patients across several consultations before any decision on implant size, shape or position is finalised — trial implants are used in clinic as part of this process. For other breast procedures, the number of consultations depends on the complexity of the case.

Breast implants do not prevent routine mammography or ultrasound surveillance, though you should inform the radiographer about your implants beforehand. Having breast implants does not prevent breast feeding.

Mr Potter performs breast surgery at the Manor Hospital in Oxford, Ridgeway Hospital in Swindon, Stratum Clinic in Wootton Oxfordshire, ProDerm in Cheltenham, and Interface Business Park in Royal Wootton Bassett.
