Frequently Asked Questions
What types of skin cancer does Mr Potter treat?
Mr Potter treats melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, and complex advanced skin cancers of the head and neck — including those involving the lymph nodes, skull base, facial nerve, ear, nose, and orbital structures.
Will my case be reviewed by a specialist team?
Yes. All skin cancer cases are discussed at a multidisciplinary team meeting in Oxford or Swindon. Complex cases are additionally reviewed at the Head and Neck MDT and Skull Base MDT where appropriate. A panel of consultant radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, dermatologists, and surgeons reviews each case before a treatment plan is agreed.
Is surgery always the recommended treatment?
Not always. While surgery is the primary treatment for most skin cancers, Mr Potter works alongside medical oncologists and radiation oncologists to ensure all options are considered. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and combinations of treatments are discussed through the MDT process. Each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their individual case.
